The Manti Te'ohoax story keeps getting weirder. Here's the latest on the Notre Dame football star and his dead girlfriend, who never actually existed.
Deadspin.com, which originally broke the story, has reported that the Twitter account used by Lennay Kekua, Te'o's dead girlfriend who never existed, was allegedly operated by Ronaiah Tuiasosopo of Palmdale, California. He's also a (one-time) football player and he knows Te'o, but how they know each other remains a mystery. Te'o has re-tweeted some of Tuiasosopo's tweets that were posted under his own name and Te'o wished him a happy birthday in a tweet.
And there's more, Us Weekly is reporting that Tuiasosopo, who is a religious singer, auditioned for The Voice, where he told a sob story about his band's car flipping over, leaving one member possibly brain dead, but then they all were miraculously OK.
The girl in the photos that the world thought was Te'o's girlfriend is actually a Los Angeles woman who is still alive, never had leukemia and doesn't know Te'o, but apparently knows Tuiasosopo.
There's also speculation that Te'o was in on the hoax and was using the fake girlfriend as cover because he's gay and has yet to come out. That angle has been burning up sports talk, but for now, it just remains another mystery in one of the strangest sports stories in recent memory.
